Macau International Airport has reported a 47.5 per cent rise in cargo traffic in January to 4,016 tonnes, compared with the corresponding month last year.

In the same month, airport passenger traffic rose 36.8 per cent or 161,432 passengers, the airport said, adding that the airport also set a daily record of 10,468 passengers on January 31.

Macau International Airport chairman Joao Manuel de Sousa Moreira said contrary to the prevailing trend of traffic declines caused by the Asian financial crisis, Macau had benefited from increased traffic over the past year.
