Caesar starts pioneer paper

Who came up with the idea for newspapers? In 59 BC Julius Caesar started what might be called the first newspaper, the Acta Diurna.

These handwritten reports were posted around Rome, giving news about laws, elections, battles, trials, births, deaths and marriages.

In the mid-15th century, printing took a leap forward when Germany's Johann Gutenberg pioneered the use of movable type. The early printed newspapers were more like one-page newsletters, but in the early 1600s the idea caught on in many European cities.
