Matt Dowling to play for New South Wales

Valley's star player of last season, Matt Dowling, has been picked to play for New South Wales in their opening Super 12s encounter against ACT this weekend.

Dowling, who starred in Valley's triumphant march to the League title will play on the wing, kept world record international try-scorer David Campese out of the side.

The former Wallaby winger has been named on the reserves bench.

The talented attacking fullback Dowling refused the opportunity to represent Hong Kong last season because he feared it would hamper his chances of one day playing for Australia.

It is an ambition which could become a reality if he catches the eye of the Australian selectors, who will also be closely watching the performances of veteran Wallabies Tim Horan and Jason Little, reunited for the first time in two seasons in the Queensland midfield.
