Goldsmith sweeps up robbers
From ADAM LEE in Macau
TWO armed robbers who tried to rob a goldsmith's workshop were swept away yesterday when the proprietor beat them off with a broom.
The robbers, armed with knives, entered the workshop at Rua de Bris da Rosa at about 11 am, threatened the proprietor and four workers and ordered them to hand over all the gold jewellery.
But, when the proprietor grabbed a broom and began beating them the two robbers ran out of the workshop empty-handed and jumped on a waiting motorcycle to escape.
The goldsmith chased after them and lashed out with his broom at the motorcycle sending the two robbers tumbling on to the road.
The robbers fled on foot, chased by the goldsmith who finally caught them with the help of two passers-by and handed them over to the police.
The two suspects were identified as teenage brothers.
