Managed care cures ill wealth

To cut costs, many large corporations are reviewing their medical expenses, Blue Cross (Asia Pacific) Insurance deputy managing director Manlo Cheung Man-lo said.

She said big companies traditionally had provided full medical cover for employees.

'Large corporations should consider managed care services, as they provide the same benefits for employees while capping costs,' Ms Cheung said.

Under a managed care scheme, an insurance company makes an arrangement with a group of doctors and hospitals to provide medical services at reduced rates.

'Managed care is well developed in America and Europe, but remains a new concept in Hong Kong' she said.

'Overseas experience has shown large corporations save money through the schemes, while doctors and hospitals gain a group of loyal clients.'
