East Asian Games

THE Hongkong Football Association last night confirmed they would be sending a team to the inaugural East Asian Games in Shanghai in May.

The HKFA had originally said they were not entering the soccer tournament but reversed their decision at last night's council meeting following a ''special invitation'' by the Games organisers.

HKFA secretary Vincent Yuen Man-chuen said: ''We will first have to apply to the Amateur Sports Federation and Olympic Committee and it is for them to decide whether we should go.

''If approval is given, our youth development committee will take up the responsibility of picking the team, which should be our national under-23 squad.'' Meanwhile sponsors of the Viceroy Cup have asked the FA to reschedule the start of the April 4 final to either 3 pm or 4 pm instead of 3.30 pm because of a planned promotional campaign.
