What Xu Simin really meant

Critics of Xu Simin claim that his unwelcome comments represent an intrusion of 'freedom of speech and information'.

His supporters, on the other hand, maintain he is exercising that 'freedom'.

In fact, Mr Xu was simply arguing that the servant is not really serving the master.

Only when Mr Xu wants all negative comments (from both the public and private sectors) towards the Government to be suppressed could he be accused of interfering with freedom of speech.

Critics of Mr Xu do not deny that he has the same right to freedom of speech as everyone else. The main concern here is related to the place and the circumstances in which the speech was made.
