SUZHOU is making a concerted push to attract investment to its fledgling industrial sector.

  Most of the projects for which backing is being sought are in light industries such as textile manufacturing and petrochemicals, in which village and town enterprises have been established.

  Such enterprises are run by farmers.

  The enterprises for which investment is wanted are already up and running. Sums of up to 50 million yuan (HK$67.34 million at official rates) are being sought. There are also some projects with no pre-set investment levels.

  China Suzhou Village and Town Enterprises Export Commodities and Investment Negotiation '93 features 51 investment projects from 38 enterprises.

        Negotiations for investment are scheduled to close on Tuesday.
