Japanese shipper Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) is to enter the Baltic states market for the first time by choosing Icelandic firm MGH as its agent for its deep-sea liner service.

MGH will handle NYK's deep-sea liner services for Latvia, Lithuania and other parts of the former Soviet Union served through Baltic ports. MGH is part of Iceland's largest shipping company, Eimskip.

Most of NYK's freight for the former Soviet Union has been handled by Finland previously.
