Young people ought to improve their written Chinese as well as their spoken Putonghua, according to chairman of the Hong Kong Examinations Authority, Joseph Chow Ming-kuen.

Speaking at the academic prize-giving day of St Joseph's College, Mr Chow stressed the importance of learning the dialect, particularly following the closer ties with China after the handover.
