Latvian's last-ditch effort gives victory to Yee Hope

A late goal plunged Rangers further into the mire when they lost 3-2 to fellow strugglers Yee Hope in an Ericsson League relegation encounter at Mongkok Stadium last night.

Rangers, who blew a 3-0 lead against relegation-doomed Five-One-Seven in a 3-3 draw on Sunday, dropped points again after leading.

Rangers opened the scoring in the 24th minute when former Nigerian international Dominic Iorfa headed in a corner from close range.

But Yee Hope equalised four minutes later when Gary McKeown scored from the penalty spot after Cameroonian defender Gerald Ambassa had tugged Neil Armour's jersey.

Canadian forward Elvis Thomas made it 2-1 for Yee Hope in the 39th minute when he converted a chance from close range.

Rangers equalised in the 83rd minute thanks to Cheung Yiu-lun's header.

But it proved to be false hope for Rangers as Latvian midfielder Oleg Alexeenko scored the winner deep into injury time, capitalising on a defensive lapse to hand his team the points.

Former world and European club champions Ajax Amsterdam have been confirmed for an exhibition match against Instant-Dict on May 24 at the Hong Kong Stadium.
