Change of fortune not far off for Cruz
AFTER a great start to the campaign Derek Cruz's team has struggled to go on with it but Arrectis Auribus (17-1) could turn things around for the local trainer judging by yesterday's performance in a Classes One and Two contest over 1,600 metres.
Pilot Glen Boss allowed the Stylish Century gelding to settle well back on the fence before working his way through the field to look a threat halfway down the straight. In the end he just ran out of condition but was only beaten a little over two lengths by the promising Telecom Chief.
This was the four-year-old's fourth start this preparation and just like last term he has taken some time to come to hand. But yesterday's effort will have topped him off nicely and he looks a winner waiting to happen.
In the 1,000-metre griffin opener, there was an eye-catching effort from Win For Lily (65-1), another promising recruit by Ivan Allan's star sire Citidancer.
Allan has his pick of the progeny and he's got his hands on a good one here. The debutant was giving the leaders more than 10 lengths at the 200-metre pole and absolutely flew at the death to grab third spot behind another first-starter, the well-schooled Fast Win from the stable of David Hayes.
