Statistical Bureau uncovers 60,000 data irregularities
The State Statistical Bureau last year uncovered more than 60,000 'irregularities' in data supplied by official bodies or businesses, the People's Court Daily reported yesterday. In 57 per cent of cases, the figures were deliberately falsified, incomplete or distorted. In 18 per cent of cases, official bodies refused to provide figures or sent them in late. In remaining cases the statistics were exaggerated through inexperience or a lack of external checks, the bureau said.
