Taiwan's Kaohsiung port handled 897,510 teu (20 ft equivalent units) in January and February, up 15.02 per cent year-on-year. Port executives said growth of its offshore shipping scheme and the end of many restrictions on carrier operations contributed to the growth.
But they said carriers refusing to pay container-cargo management fees was a growing problem. Cargo-handling operations were privatised at the start of this year.
