Catch up with other countries

Most of CMB's buses are more than 10 years old and by present-day standards, they are noisy and environmentally unfriendly.

The Government would be wrong if it allowed the new bus service provider to take over all these buses as part of the route takeover package.

The new bus operator must undertake to use not just new vehicles, but buses that satisfy current safety, environmental and noise-emission control standards used overseas. Those who have travelled abroad and used other countries' bus services will agree that the fare level of our buses is not cheap. In return we are getting a substandard service.

The Transport Department is at least partly responsible for this, as well as the Transport Advisory Committee. With the changeover, this is a good time for us all to press for reasonably priced and safe bus services in Hong Kong.
