Superstition plays a big part in the lives of jockeys according to Alan Munro.

Alan, who is contracted to Alex Wong Siu-tan's stable, says that whenever he rides he wears an amber and turquoise pendant because 'amber brings good luck and turquoise protects those on a journey'.

He also believes in the healing powers of crystals and has placed several around his home on the advice of a fung shui master. 'I've been to everything from fortune-tellers to face-readers.' Colleague Eric Legrix is just as superstitious. The Hong Kong Derby-winning jockey recently shaved his head on a whim and soon after won five races in a row. He now shaves his head every week.
