If Winnie Ho (South China Morning Post, April 23) believes that the audience for TVB Pearl's Journey to the West comprises more than ethnic Chinese viewers and a miniscule number of gweilos with appalling judgment she is sadly deluded.
It may be based on classic literature, but the TV production is a classic example of a good story badly told.
The special effects are cheap and would not be out of place in an Ed Wood horror movie.
The acting is risibly exaggerated and most of the actors would receive my nomination for the 'Golden Raspberry' awards.
In the hands of a skilled production team and with truly professional actors the series would have kept me glued to the screen. As it is I would rather clean my own apartment.
