Fixed-line telecoms face fate

The Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau yesterday released a consultation paper seeking public views on the future of fixed-line telecoms. The review will focus on the June 30 expiry of the three-year head start given to the three new fixed-line network service operators and whether more local licences should be issued. It will decide if more international licences should be handed out when Hongkong Telecom's international service monopoly finishes at the end of the year.
