I refer to the letter headlined, 'Marine officials must keep public informed', from David C. Anderson (South China Morning Post, May 14).

The Marine Department is very concerned about the accident involving the jetfoil Flores on May 2. This has been a very unique type of accident.

The Director of Marine has appointed a team of officers to investigate the case and their report is expected in about six weeks' time. The investigation will not only look into the primary cause of the accident, but also other safety aspects such as navigational procedures, crew training, assistance to passengers, evacuation procedures etc.

The objective of the investigation is to identify the cause of the accident and to take steps to prevent such accidents in the future.

The Marine Department has, in the past, published investigation reports relating to all major accidents and the report on this incident will be published in a similar manner.
