Election materials harming the environment

The Constitutional Affairs office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has sent a card to each registered elector to commemorate the first Legislative Council election of the HKSAR.

Personally, I don't think this election is worth commemorating since it is not a democratic election.

To make the election democratic, all seats in Legco should be directly elected.

Therefore, this card has no value to me.

I wondered if the production of this card was a waste of resources, or whether it was environmental friendly and recyclable.

As stated in the election advertising materials, another card will be sent to the electors who cast their votes on election day. I would suggest the Constitutional Affairs office rethink before sending such a card (or 'rubbish' to some electors) again.

If the Constitutional Affairs office insists on producing the cards, then it is advisable to produce them in limited numbers and put them in district offices. Any electors interested can then take one. This will help save the environment and resources.

JOHNNY CHEUNG Wan Chai I am fed up with receiving all these Legislative Council election pamphlets.

Why can't the candidates be more considerate towards the environment and think about the amount of paper that is wasted? So far, only one candidate has sent a single leaflet for all the voters in my household. I appreciate the effort.

Many candidates say they care about the environment, but they are not practising what they preach. Maybe they have just overlooked this problem. If so, then they should think about it now.

Global deforestation is serious. We should think about every sheet of paper we use. We adults have a responsibility to pass this planet on to our children in a reasonable state.

The small environmental issues are as important as the large ones.
