'Self-punishment' was a way to raise the status of professionals, an Election Committee candidate told nine professional groups.
The professionals - surveyors and engineers, in particular - had raised concerns at the forum about ensuring local firms were given priority for contracts and an increase in their professional status. Clothing tycoon Charles Yeung Chun-kam, of the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance, told them that 'self-discipline, self-management and self-punishment' was the answer.
The forum was also addressed by candidate and former provisional legislature president Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai (above).
