Ban on Anderlecht overturned
Lausanne, Switzerland: A sports tribunal yesterday overturned UEFA's European competition ban on Belgian side Anderlecht for bribing a Spanish referee in their UEFA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest in 1984.
The Court of Sports Arbitration, set up by the International Olympic Committee, said UEFA's executive committee was not competent to rule on the bribery charge, which should have been dealt with by UEFA's judicial committee.
UEFA said it would abide by the tribunal's decision. 'Under these conditions, RSC Anderlecht will compete in next season's UEFA Cup,' it said.
