SEAGATE Technology has announced the release of the ST3290A hard disk drive on to the competitive 200 to 299 megabyte (MB) market.

This 260-MB hard disk drive, designed for the entry-level and mid-range PC market, features an AT interface and average seek time of 16 milliseconds.

The drive's on-board 64 kilobyte (KB) multi-segmented adaptive cache accelerates effective access to stored data.

Evaluation and production units are currently available, with prices for original equipment manufacture (OEM) single-unit evaluation starting at US$500.

The company also announced the launch of the ST3390 low-profile 340-MB hard drive.

The ST3390 provides ultra-fast, effective access to data by employing a 256-KB multi-segmented adaptive cache, along with a 12-millisecond average seek time, and an average latency of 6.67 milliseconds resulting from a 4,500 RPM spindle.

In addition, the drive features a data transfer rate of up to 10 MB per second.

This fast transfer rate, along with fast, effective access to data, provides the required I/O performance for advanced multi-tasking, multimedia and high speed graphic environments.

Both versions of the ST3390 are available with OEM single-units priced at US$600 for AT versions and US$625 for Fast SCSI-2. The products carry a standard two-year warranty.
