Five accused of loansharking
Five people accused of charging 840 per cent interest in a loanshark syndicate were released on bail yesterday.
Taxi driver Wong Wai-keung, housewife Fung Chui-lin, her husband Cheng Kwok-yu, former security guard Wong Kwok-choi and Lee Tze-kin were all accused of lending money at an excessive rate in March this year.
No plea was taken in the Eastern Court yesterday.
Magistrate Garry Tallentire released Wong on $40,000 bail, and Fung and Cheng on $50,000 cash bail. The three were charged together on the same count. Wong and Lee, charged together, were released on $30,000 and $20,000 bail respectively.
The proceedings were adjourned until June 18.
