Beijing is looking to shift its steel manufacturing towards higher-end production involving better technology to counter a glut of low-end steel. Xinhua news agency said the mainland would undertake new steel projects in its old 'rust-belt' production centres such as the Baoshan, Anshan and Capital iron and steel factories, said State Administration of Metallurgical Industry deputy director Wang Xiaoqi. The upgrades would focus on producing high value-added, technology-intensive products such as car sheeting and home appliance sheeting.
