All set for summer fun
Looking for something to do as a family this summer? Hong Kong offers the perfect opportunity to indulge in the magical world of make-believe.
The Urban Council is turning Hong Kong into one big castle of fun and entertainment with the Summer Fun Festival, which runs from July 19 to August 23.
With shows and cultural programmes organised for the holidays, the festival will run in conjunction with the International Arts Carnival, which begins on July 17 and ends on August 14.
Opening this year's festival of summer fun will be a Winnie the Fooh ballet drama presented by the Netherlands' Introdans Ensemble for Youth.
Sharing the spotlight with Winnie will be the China Welfare Institute Oriental Little Companion Art Troupe from the mainland, presenting Children's Expedition to the World, a dance and musical programme. This year's festival highlight will be the International Children's Choral Concerts, featuring children's choirs from the United States, Sweden, Israel and China.
These world-class choirs have teamed up to provide an uplifting programme of sweet song.
Wukong, the mythical Monkey King, will also be making an appearance at the Summer Fun Festival, courtesy of the Hong Kong Dance Company in the classic tale, Journey to the West - - Monkey King at Mount Inferno.
In order to get Monk Tripitaka (Piggy) and Sha Ho- Shang with his necklace of skulls to the other side of Mount Inferno, Monkey King has to overcome Bull King in battle and persuade Princess Iron Fan to lend him her magic fan.
Other items on the festival programme include hands-on arts workshops covering music, dance, puppetry, theatre, mime, arts and crafts, paintings, film and public libraries.
Senior citizens, the disabled and full-time students can enjoy half-price tickets for all performances and workshops.
