Training in English in UK schools

MORE than 350 British independent schools offering specialist English teaching for overseas students are listed in a new booklet from the Independent Schools Information Service (ISIS).

The booklet is designed to help overseas parents who would like their children to be educated in the UK but are not aware that mainstream schools can offer suitable English teaching facilities.

Many parents automatically assume that their children would not be accepted by an ISIS school and imagine that they should therefore look for a place in a specialist language school.

There are, in fact, hundreds of schools which are happy to accept overseas pupils, and can give them professional help with English so they can enjoy a full boarding school curriculum while learning or mastering the language.

The booklet shows the range of facilities offered by schools, from those offering short stays to improve English to those with tuition at all levels from beginners to examination standard.

Copies of the booklet, which is being circulated to embassies and British Council offices worldwide, are available from ISIS, 56 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6AG, England.
