Two arrested over raid and shootout
Macau police have detained two men and recovered $4 million worth of goods after a raid on a pawn shop ended in a gun-battle. A third suspect was still at large last night.
Three mainlanders entered Macau on three-day travel permits last Friday. Investigators believe they came specifically to commit the crime.
It is not yet known whether the gold ornaments seized were the total haul.
Judiciary Police have also seized two guns - a .22 revolver and a 7.62mm Chinese military-issue Black Star pistol fitted with an infra-red night sight - which are understood to have been used in the raid early yesterday morning.
The gang ran into a group of patrolling police tactical unit officers as they fled the Hop Seng pawn shop in the Jai Alai Entertainment Centre.
Police said they returned 13 shots after being fired on three times by the gang, who tried to escape in a hijacked taxi.
After a police chase, two of the gang ran off.
One of the suspects, suffering gunshot wounds to his leg, told a taxi driver to take him to hospital, where staff alerted police. The second suspect was later arrested in a nearby street, wearing a blood-stained shirt.
