The Vocational Training Council is conducting two manpower surveys in the machine shop and metal working, and electronics and telecommunications sectors.

Employers have been urged to supply up-to-date manpower and training information for the surveys.

The survey of the machine shop and metal working sector, being carried out by the council's Metals Training Board, will be completed on July 10.

The second survey, conducted by the council's Electronics and Telecommunications Training Board, will continue until July 9.

Questionnaires and explanatory letters in English and Chinese have been sent out to selected establishments. Employers were requested to provide information such as the number of staff employed, the number of employees under training, the number of existing vacancies and a forecast of total employees by next year.

During the survey period, interviewers from the Census and Statistics Department will visit each of the establishments to collect results and, if necessary, answer queries.

The information collected is important for formulating effective manpower training plans to meet the needs of the industries, and co-operation from employers is vital for accuracy.

The council said the information collected will be published only in the form of statistical summaries, without reference to any companies.
