Competition among fast food shops is intensifying with a co-founder of Cafe de Coral and Fairwood launching the first in a proposed new food chain.

Alfred Lo Hoi-fook, who helped found Cafe de Coral in 1963 and Fairwood in 1972, yesterday opened Fruito Ricci in Whampoa Garden, Hunghom.

Mr Lo has poached two long-serving Fairwood executives to join his venture.

'I'm not creating competition against Cafe de Coral and Fairwood,' he said.

Mr Lo holds no stake in Cafe de Coral or Fairwood, which are controlled by members of his family.
