The Australian central bank bought A$2.6 billion (about HK$12.41 billion) more of the Australian dollar than it sold last month, suggesting it spent about that much trying to arrest the aussie's slide to near record lows. That was close to the $3 billion some analysts estimated the bank had spent. The central bank stepped in to buy the aussie on June 4, when it tumbled to nearly 60 US cents.
