ELEVEN people were killed and 25 injured when a two-storey staff residence collapsed at a quarry on the outskirts of Guangzhou.
The seven-year-old brick building housed workers - mostly farmers - employed by the Xiayuan Stone Quarry in the Huangpu district.
According to the Hongkong China News Agency, the second floor was added without approval from municipal authorities.

Five members of the Wei Qiduan family from Wuhua County perished.
One worker had to have his left arm amputated before he could be freed from underneath a concrete slab.

Guangzhou authorities have not said whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the illegal structure, nor what compensation the victims were entitled to.
