Use vacant rooms for the needy

WHY are there so many rooms vacant in old estates such as Valley Road Estate? I am opposed to the policy of double rent for so-called ''wealthy tenants''. Instead the Government could rent these vacant rooms to needy people and thus generate more income.

The ''double rent'' policy has failed in its goal to encourage wealthy tenants to buy flats of their own. Moreover, many wealthy tenants are not wealthy, even if their children have high incomes. Some children contribute nothing towards the family's living expenses or double rent.

So while some families may appear wealthy, they are, in fact, still struggling to cope with the high cost of living.
