Your article 'Lack of Y2K standard leaves worried customers in dark' (Technology Post, August 4) may have confused your readers on IBM's policy in this area. As your article states, IBM will indeed provide free service for IBM products that fail to properly handle post-1999 dates, but it should be stressed that this free service would apply during the warranty period only to those IBM products that have been designated as Year 2000. Older IBM products that were not designed to handle Year 2000 dates will need to be upgraded or replaced, and these actions would not be covered by our warranty.
