Scandal just terrible waste

The highly publicised and dramatised affair between United States President Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky baffles me.

This is the most absurd waste of time and money and the parties concerned in giving it such high publicity should be condemned.

What does it serve to prove? That President Clinton is a liar.

Is this unexpected of politicians and lawyers? His actions are without doubt immoral and are a very bad example to the children of today.

However, as degrading as it is, they are his private affairs, and the parties responsible for giving this matter such publicity merely glorify it.

One must question the part of Ms Lewinsky in allowing the affair to develop when fully aware the President has a wife and a daughter.

Was it Ms Lewinsky's intention to break up the family in the hope of becoming the de facto first lady, or was it a case of sexual desire? Whatever, these are personal matters between the parties involved that do not justify the attention of a whole nation, and certainly not the world.

The press and the media should be more responsible in their profession.

The parties who engaged in the immoral acts were not really hurt, but the taxpayers' money has been wasted and, more importantly, Mr Clinton's wife and daughter scarred.

The millions of wasted dollars could have been put to better use to help the people of the world who are suffering famines and natural disasters, or, appropriately in this case, been used to improve social education.

Society cannot be so naive to think such immoral sexual practices do not exist when one reads, ever so often, of similar stories being written about famous people such as the late Mao Zedong, royalty around the world and business leaders.

Does the media have no better news to cover? I hope we will see an end to the coverage of this disgusting subject.
