The Economist Group has bucked the bearish sentiment in the business and media markets in Asia and announced the launch of a new title aimed at financial directors and treasurers.

CFO Asia is to launch in November aimed at a niche audience of senior executives involved in company financial operations.

With an opening circulation of 12,500 copies, CFO Asia is designed to dovetail into the Economist Group's sister publications CFO, which circulates in North America, and CFO Europe.

Publisher Justin Smith and editor John Goff said the new title would provide specific business information for CFOs in the region.

They said the role of their target reader had evolved from being a number cruncher to a close adviser to the chief executive.

Mr Smith joined the Economist Group in 1996 as a director of group development for the Asia-Pacific region, after two years in Paris as a special assistant to the publisher of the International Herald Tribune.

Mr Goff has been a contributing editor to CFO and another Economist Group publication, Treasury and Risk Management, for the past four years.
