Tourists and residents will be able to plan their journeys street-by-street before leaving home on an interactive Internet site launched yesterday.

With point-and-click information on hotels, restaurants, shopping and sightseeing, the Computerised Map Inquiry System for Tourists was developed by the Lands Department, funded by the Jockey Club and handed to the Hong Kong Tourist Association.

The free system is available at www.lic.gov.hk/cmestdir, in display kiosks at the tourist information centre in the basement of Jardine House in Central, and at the Kowloon Map Publication Centre of the Lands Department at 382 Nathan Road, Kowloon.

'More display kiosks connected to the system will be installed in coming months at the new airport and other convenient locations. The system will be available to local residents as well,' said Director of Lands Robert Pope.
