Response system delayed
Plans to establish a mechanism to collect information on how countries improve their competitiveness are behind schedule.
The Administration Wing disclosed in the report that consultation had taken 'slightly longer than expected'.
'We have now commissioned a consultancy study which is scheduled for completion in the first half of 1999,' it said. A spokesman for the Finance Bureau said the mechanism was to ensure 'timely dissemination of the processed information to the relevant government agencies' to help assess any implications for Hong Kong and consider appropriate responses'.
The amount to be spent on the consultancy report could not be disclosed, the spokesman said.
