Improvement in hotel occupancy rates shows tourism perking up

THE tourism downturn is showing signs of reversing, with hotel occupancy rising to 75 per cent last month - up from 70 per cent in September last year.

All categories of accommodation showed higher occupancies, the Hong Kong Tourist Association said. The average occupancy rate for the first nine months was 74 per cent, against 77 per cent in 1997.
