The Food Aid gala dinner was held a day before a concert in which Jose Carreras enthralled audiences with his repertoire of arias.

Although Carreras did not stay for the dinner at the Grand Hyatt as he said he had to rest, he still managed to charm all those who met him and got up on stage to give a speech. There was an opening dance performed by the DongRang 'Choom' Korean Drum dancers, as well as a performance by soprano Gail Dobish.
