Personal best for Parkes

Hong Kong's Rob Parkes completed the Phuket Ironman Triathlon in his best time, despite racing in 35 degrees Celsius heat and high humidity.

Parkes was placed third in the 30-34 age group category after completing the course in two hours, 49 minutes and 33 seconds.

Teammate Ian Rayson finished in the money in 10th place (2:59.05) in the pro race won by Marc Lees of Australia (2:29.03) from compatriot Greg Welch (2:23.54) and American Mike Pigg (2:34.31).

Nicole Budd (3:04.09) and Kim Isherwood (3:08.05), Hong Kong's other entrants, finished seventh and eighth respectively in the pro women's race won by Jackie Gallager of Australia in 2:47.52. Sian Welch of the US took second place in 2:50.15.

Budd and Isherwood's performances will put them in good stead for next month's Hong Kong International Triathlon on November 22.
