It gives me pleasure to congratulate the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department on its 50th anniversary.

The department has played an indispensable role in our daily lives over the past 50 years.

With little fanfare, engineers and technicians of EMSD have worked quietly and efficiently to ensure the safe operation of electrical and mechanical installations in our airport, hospitals, clinics, town halls and government offices.

It also regulates standards of gas and electricity supply, lift and escalator safety, promotes energy conservation and helps remove hazards from our homes and workplaces. EMSD is one of our pioneers in public sector reform.

Through the trading fund arrangements, the department has acquired a new image, with improved services, lower costs, enhanced productivity, greater flexibility and increased customer satisfaction. It has set an excellent example for other colleagues to follow.

I commend all past and present staff of EMSD on their achievements over the past 50 years and wish the department every success in the years to come.
