Same toll for tunnels
I refer to Ian Stewart's letter on the subject of tolls for the three cross-harbour tunnels (South China Morning Post, October 22).
A look at the monthly traffic volume figures for the three tunnels shows that they are inversely proportional to the amount of fee charged.
For example, the fee for the Cross-Harbour Tunnel is one-third that of the Western Harbour Tunnel and, not surprisingly, the traffic volume through it is approximately three times that of the Western tunnel. Similarly, the fee for the Eastern Harbour Crossing is half that for the Western tunnel and the traffic volume is approximately double.
You don't need a consultant or smart ideas to advise on the solution for correcting the imbalance of traffic through the three tunnels: simply impose a uniform fee on all, as soon as possible.
