Bright future ahead for Ho's new stable Star

TRAINER Peter Ho's early season heroics have been the talk of the town and Melrose Star (47-1) is guaranteed to have more tongues wagging after his whirlwind finish behind Super Conqueror in yesterday's Class Five mile.

Ho is second in the standings after a brilliant string of successes and the lightly raced Melrose Star should add to them soon. He looks fully fit now after three runs back and this time he came from third last at the home turn to be reeling in the placegetters on the line.

The Australian-bred four-year-old was eventually sixth, just over five lengths from the winner, but he was making big strides through the beaten brigade and was held up in traffic inside the final 200 metres.

He'll be a better horse at Sha Tin and will appreciate a step up in trip.

Elsewhere, there was another game effort from Wasabi (28-1), who nearly fell at the 600 and picked himself up only to run into a wall of horses in the straight in the Classes One and Two mile event won by Sound Gallop. He still ran sixth, beaten less than three lengths, and is as honest as they come.
