'Flawless' Tsang in early lead
Taiwan's Michael Tsang Tse-peng upstaged some of the best-known names in golf to take a surprise lead after the opening round of the US$350,000 Johnnie Walker Super Tour at Johor Bahru's Palm Resort Golf and Country Club.
The talented 28-year-old snared four birdies and an eagle in an inspired six-under-par 66 to equal the Allamanda Course record and take a two-stroke lead from defending Super Tour champion Jesper Parnevik of Sweden and Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng.
A shot back is Malaysian Marimuthu Ramayah, while Fijian Vijay Singh, South African Ernie Els and American Brian Watts all returned two-under-par 70s. Felix Casas of the Philippines carded a 71.
Tsang's performance earned praise from Els, who said the Asian star had played a 'flawless' round.
The only player in the nine-strong field who failed to better par was Englishwoman Laura Davies, the first female participant in the exhibition event who carded a 79.
