Guangzhou trade levy

The 22 members of the Intra-Asia Discussion Agreement (Iada) serving regional trade with Guangzhou will implement a rate restoration of US$50 per teu (20 ft equivalent unit) and $100 per feu (40 ft equivalent unit) from December.

Iada said the rate restoration would apply to export shipments from Guangzhou where place of receipt was Guangzhou and/or Huangpu, irrespective of how the cargo was routed. It gave no reason for the levy.

In June, Iada members serving the intra-Asia trade from Guangdong province introduced a levy of $105 per teu and $210 per feu for dry cargo and $155 per teu and $310 per feu for refrigerated cargo.

Iada said that charge was aimed at partly recovering on-shore costs incurred by shipping lines in Guangdong.

Cargo shipments from Guangdong, which are issued under a Hong Kong ocean bill of lading, will be subject to the Hong Kong terminal handling charge.
