Make play for Toy Baron

Those who backed TOY BARON on his seasonal debut should recoup their investment when the Andy Leung-trained galloper is reproduced in the opening leg of this afternoon's Triple Trio.

At the Valley on Melbourne Cup day, Toy Baron was making his way into the race at the 600-metre mark when five-pound claimer Martin C. K. Tsang ran on to the heels of a wall of horses.

That knock would have been enough for most in this class to have thrown in the towel, but Toy Baron bucked the trend.

In the straight, Tsang opted for a rails run and the gamble looked like paying off before he was chopped out again as Bordeaux ducked in after some scrimmaging in the middle of the track. The boy was forced to take hold again and still finished sixth, beaten just over four lengths.

It was a run that said follow me in this grade next time.

That was a Class Five contest won by Dream Team and Toy Baron now takes the drop into the bottom grade for this 1,800-metre affair.

It's hard to get too carried away with these low-class animals but the five-year-old Centro gelding does look well in on that effort and the best of his form and he should jump at better than each-way odds in what looks a tricky start to the popular exotic wager.

Significantly, Toy Baron was visored for the first time that night at the Valley and he retains that gear for today's contest.

The key to his chances, however, is probably the booking of talented stable jockey Brett 'Double' Doyle who was aboard the last time connections got the money at Sha Tin in January.
