Highways Department also mauls countryside

I refer to 'Saddened by tree-felling' (South China Morning Post, November 26). Property developers are not the only guilty ones. The expressway between Fanling and Hong Lok Yuen has been devastated by the Highways Department. Not only have they cut trees right down to the ground but small bushes which used to camouflage the fence. I realise trees have to be trimmed but this desecration is criminal.

Not only do trees beautify roads they filter pollution and put oxygen back into the air. Where is the Environmental Protection Department when it's needed? Do government departments know what others are doing? I think not.
