Security was strengthened at a prison on Lantau last night after a fight involving more than 200 inmates.

More than 40 per cent of inmates at trouble-plagued Ma Po Ping Prison were transferred following the clash which injured 51 prisoners and two guards.

Stools were used and punches and kicks were traded in the melee which erupted at breakfast time.

The violence was believed to have been a revenge attack on mainlanders following an incident on Sunday in which two local prisoners were attacked.
