Lo has a Scenic view of the future

Colourful local mentor Eddie Lo appears to have found the key to Scenic Star (35-1) after his game fourth behind Dolbridge in yesterday's Class Four eighth event.

The Australian-bred gelding had four outings over shorter sprint trips prior to this 1,400-metre contest, but he stayed on well in the concluding stages to suggest another hike in distance could be what he is seeking.

Local rider Eddie Lai allowed the big grey to take up a forward spot in the early stages but he was unable to find cover and was forced to cut the breeze in fifth or sixth spot for much of the trip.

Despite covering those extra yards, Scenic Star stuck to the task and was only run out of the tierce close home.

In the end he was beaten by four lengths but he did have the measure of some handy Class Four performers in behind.

There was a promising debut from the Peter Ho-prepared Prancing Horse (13-1), who flew from the pack to dead-heat for second behind Yellow River in the Classes One and Two seventh event.TLP
